Saginaw Chippewa Tribe to announce layoffs

The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan is getting ready to announce some layoffs as part of a government-wide restructuring.

The tribe has about 4,000 employees and an annual payroll of $101 million. But Chief Fred Cantu said the tribe needs to streamline its operation.

The layoffs will be announced before November 1. Every tribal department and business, including the casino, is being scrutinized.

The tribe spent millions on convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
