Longtime Washoe chairman Wallace ousted

Brian Wallace, the longtime chairman of the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California, was ousted by voters on Saturday, according to preliminary results of the election.

Waldo W. Walker, a Desert Storm veteran, beat Wallace by 41 votes. The results will be finalized by the tribal council and the tribe's election board unless there is a challenge within 5 days.

Walker, 37, is married and has two daughters. He has no prior tribal government experience.

Wallace led the tribe for 16 years.
