Gila River artist receives Living Treasure Award


Amil Pedro, an artist from the Gila River Indian Community, received the Arizona Indian Living Treasure Award at a ceremony at the Heard Museum in Phoenix.

Pedro began creating art at the age of 5. His sketches, carvings, paintings, sculptures and other works are now known across the state.

When he wasn't making art, Pedro worked for the Arizona Search and Rescue team. He now teaches art classes and continues to make commissioned works.
