Dry Creek Band seeks return of 17,000 acres

The Dry Creek Band of Pomo Indians is asking the federal government to return 17,000 acres.

The tribe says the land around Lake Sonoma and Warm Springs Dam was illegally taken more than a century ago. The lake sees about 500,000 visitors annually.

The lake and the dam are currently managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which has considered a similar land transfer for a tribe in North Dakota. The Corps says it is considering the request.
