Nez Perce Tribe resumes bison hunt in Montana

The Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho resumed its bison hunt on treaty lands in Montana, adding elk and other wildlife to the list.

Tribal members took six bison last winter, the first time the tribe exercised its treaty rights in Montana in decades. This year, the tribe plans to issue tags for up to 50 to 70 bison.

The tribe said elk are secondary target, with bighorn sheep, moose, antelope and mountain goats also potential targets. Some state officials are concerned about the expanded hunt.
