Alaska Native corporations reach $5B in revenues

Alaska Native corporations are generating more than $5 billion in revenues, according to a forthcoming report.

The 13 regional corporations, plus three village corporations, reported $5.86 billion in revenue in 2005, according to the Alaska Native Corporations 2005 Economic Data report. That's a 39 percent increase from 2004.

The profits from the 16 firms was $361 million. That's more than double the $125 million in 2004, the report said.

The report showed that revenues are now more evenly distributed among the corporations. For years, the Arctic Slope Regional Corporation represented the lions' share of revenues but now two other corporations have reached or are near the $1 billion mark.
