Sen. Domenici seeks probe of Navajo NIEA trip

Sen. Pete Domenici (R-New Mexico) has asked the Interior Department's Inspector General to investigate the Navajo Nation's trip to the National Indian Education Association conference in Hawaii.

More than 350 representatives from the tribe, Bureau of Indian Affairs schools and public school districts on the reservation attended the conference. Domenici wants to know if any federal funds were misappropriated or misused in connection with the trip.

According to an earlier story by The Farmington Daily Times, one public school district on the reservation used federal Johnson O'Malley funds to send people to the conference.
