Tribal schools fail to conduct fingerprint checks
Some tribes that run Bureau of Indian Affairs schools aren't requiring employees to undergo fingerprint checks, according to a report from the Interior Department's Inspector General.

Based on a sampling of employee hires at 18 tribal-run BIA schools between 2004 and 2007, 43 percent did not undergo the checks, the report said. Four tribal-run schools didn't check fingerprints at all.

The record was better at schools run directly by the BIA. Six percent did not undergo fingerprint checks, the OIG said.
