State of Indian Nations, DOI event in Washington

Two events of interest to Indian Country take place at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., today.

At 10am, Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne and other Bush administration officials will hold a press conference in the Holeman Lounge. Kempthorne will discuss budget initiatives and an online training course for federal employees that focuses on Indian issues.

At 12:30pm, National Congress of American Indians President Joe A. Garcia will deliver the 6th annual State of Indian Nations, focusing on Native youth; economic development; trust reform, sovereignty, homeland security and other issues. The speech will be broadcast on NCAI's website and a teleconference for media is available.
