Fire on Mescalero Reservation mostly contained

A fire on the Mescalero Apache Reservation in southern New Mexico has been 65 percent contained as of Tuesday.

Crews from multiple agencies have held the fire steady at 3,860 acres. More than 450 firefighters were battling the blaze, which started last Thursday.

Incident commanders will reduce the number of firefighters to about 140 people now that the fire is being contained.
