Sen. McCain to announce vice presidential pick
Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) will announce his vice presidential pick at 11am on Friday.

Speculation has centered around Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, former governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts and Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, who is registered as an independent but organizes with the Democrats in the Senate.

Pawlenty angered tribes early in his administration by pushing revenue-sharing they didn't want. He appealed a ruling that favored tribal sovereignty in a case that preceded the imposition of state jurisdiction on tribes through the Adam Walsh Act.

Romney supported tribal gaming when he was campaigning for the Senate in 1994. But he changed his mind on nearly every gaming issue after he became governor and now opposes all forms of gaming.

Lieberman has long been an ally to tribes in Connecticut and reached out to Indian voters during his 2004 presidential campaign. He has not been visible on Indian issues since then though he has remained a critic of the federal recognition process.
