The Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin has placed its longtime police chief on paid leave amid a state criminal investigation.
A tribal memo obtained by The Ashland Press said Charles Bresette is being investigated in connection with missing evidence money. The memo cited two different cases from 2004 in which drug money disappeared.
In the memo, tribal attorney David Ujke said the FBI looked into the matter in 2007.
