Oglala Sioux women reach settlement for voting rights case
Two members of the Oglala Sioux Tribe reached a settlement with the state of South Dakota in a voting rights case.

Eileen Janis and Kim Colhoff were convicted in federal court on felony charges. Their names were removed from the voter rolls in South Dakota.

Janis nor Colhoff completed their sentences but their voting rights were not restored in accordance with state law. Both women were denied a right to vote in elections last year.

The state agreed to implement new procedures, training and education to settle the lawsuit. Janis and Colhoff were represented by the American Civil Liberties Union.
