Tulalip Tribes report 70 percent participation in 2010 Census
As of last month, 70 percent of households on the Tulalip Reservation in Washington participated in the 2010 Census.

That's a big improvement from the 2000 Census. Only 54 percent of reservation households participated that year.

"We're deeply appreciative of the Census Bureau for understanding that Indian Country was underrepresented 10 years ago," Chairman Mel Sheldon. told The Seattle Times.

Historically, American Indians, Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians have been the most undercounted groups. Tribes like the Tulalip are pushing for more participation to ensure they receive adequate federal funds.
