Duke Energy in talks to stop development near Cherokee site
Duke Energy is considering a new site for an electrical substation after protests from the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

Duke started work on the substation near Kituwah, the ancestral Cherokee home in North Carolina. The company is in negotiations to buy another plot of land for the project.

Kituwah is the birthplace of the Cherokee people. It was home to the tribe's ancestral village and the site of a year-round sacred flame.
