Saginaw Chippewa Tribe celebrates opening of first credit union

The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan held a grand opening and reception for its new credit union.

The Chippewa Eagle Federal Credit Union gained federal approval last year. It will provide services to an estimated 7,800 members and employees of the tribe.

“The service they will provide to the Tribe will be a huge service,” Chief Dennis Kequom said at the ceremony, The Mt. Pleasant Morning Sun reported. “We’ve all been looking forward to it.”

The credit union will offer share accounts, personal loans and, eventually, mortgage loans, business loans, credit cards, credit lines, retirement accounts and business accounts.
