Four dead after fire and RCMP shooting on Manitoba First Nation





Four members of a family are dead after a fire on the God's Lake First Nation. in Manitoba.

Two young children -- a boy and a girl between the ages of two and five -- along with an elderly man died in a house fire on Monday morning. Another man -- who was identified as a relative of the fire victims -- was later fatally shot by an RCMP officer at the scene.

"What now? That's my reaction: what now?" Chief Peter Watt told CBC News in response to the tragedy.

According to the Manitoba Fire Commissioner, four percent of all fires in 2009 took place on reserves. In the last five years alone, 11 children have died in fires on reserves in the province.
