Utilities commission takes up complaint over Crow Creek firm

The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission said it will decide on a complaint filed against a telecommunications firm that operates on the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation.

Sprint is accusing Native American Telecom of a practice known as traffic pumping. The Federal Communications Commission considers the practice to be legal but Sprint is upset about large fees going to the firm.

The complaint was filed 10 months ago but the commission held off amid lawsuits in federal and tribal court. Commissioners said they can't wait any longer to resolve the dispute.
