A sheriff's deputy in New Mexico has been fired in connection with the beating of a man from the Navajo Nation.

Dale Frazier was fired by San Juan County for violating the sheriff department's policy on use of force. He used a police flashlight to beat Donovan Tanner, 22, in the head and neck on March 17.

"I think it is absolutely the right thing to do," said Arlon Stoker, Tanner's attorney, told The Farmington Daily Times.

Tanner has filed a lawsuit in federal court against the Frazier, another officer and the sheriff's department for the incident, which was caught on Frazier's in-car patrol camera.
