Coquille Tribe obtains controlling stake in high-tech business





The Coquille Tribe of Oregon said it acquired a controlling stake in Perpetua Power Source Technologies, a firm that produces renewable energy components.

The deal enables Perpetua to build an assembly plant on land owned by the tribe.Construction will begin this year and the facility is expected to create 30 jobs.

"We need some manufacturing jobs to create some value down here," Calvin Mukumoto, the chairman and CEO of the tribe's Mith-ih-kwuh Economic Development Corp., told The Corvallis Gazette-Times.

Perpetua also plans to expand its existing manufacturing plant.
