San Manuel chair and rival seek police union endorsement

The San Bernardino County Safety Employees' Benefit Association hasn't decided who to endorse in the race for 3rd district supervisor.

James Ramos, the chairman of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, met with the union earlier this month. So did rival Neil Derry, who won the endorsement in 2008.

"The board is split right now. I've told them both that," union president Laren Leichliter told The San Bernardino Sun.

The endorsement is important. In 2008, the union contributed $406,000 of the $712,000 that Derry raised for his campaign.

The San Manuel Band has donated $175,000 to the union.
