Tanana Chiefs Conference offers reward for 1997 homicide

The Tanana Chiefs Conference announced a $5,500 reward for information about the 1997 murder that led to the convictions of four Alaska Native men.

TCC President Jerry Isaac said the evidence against the four men is weak. Marvin Roberts, Eugene Vent, George Frese and Kevin Pease are serving sentences for the death of John Hartman.

“I’m sorry that as one of the Native leaders that it’s taken me this long to take a final stand," Isaac said, The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported.

TCC is working with the Alaska Innocence Project in hopes of gaining the men a new trial.
