Hoopa Valley Tribe ties shooting to council member's vote

The Hoopa Valley Tribe of California is offering a $2,500 reward for information about a drive-by shooting at the home of a council member.

Margaret Dickson was at a council meeting on May 18 when someone shot a gun at her home. At the time, she was voting to remove another council member from office.

"They had to have been tied together,” Chairman Leonard Masten Jr. told The Eureka Times-Standard. “I don't see how it was any other way.”

Dickson's vote was crucial to the removal of Ryan Jackson. Her is daughter is married to Jackson's uncle, who also sits on the council.

"It was a very difficult spot to be in,” Dickson told the paper. Jackson was removed for violating the tribe's drug policy.
