Star basketball player donates jersey to Grand Traverse Band

Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians held a send-off for Dwaun Anderson, a tribal member who received a full scholarship to Michigan State University.

The tribe held the ceremony at its Strongheart Center. Anderson grew up playing basketball there.

“I guess I’ve been playing ball here at the Strongheart since I was about 7 years-old — since the place was built," Anderson said, The Leelanau Enterprise reported.

Anderson donated his Suttons Bay High School basketball jersey to the tribe for display at the center. He led the team to 25-2 record and to the state tournament this year.

“We’re all immensely proud of Dwaun — and of all he’s accomplished and will accomplish for our tribe,” Chairman Derek Bailey said, the paper reported.
