Lumbee Tribe reopens rolls for the first time in nearly five years

The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina is expecting a large number of new applicants for enrollment.

The tribe reopened the membership rolls for the first time since November 2006. Due to a high level of interested, applications are only being taken by appointment.

“On the first day of enrollment, based on the calls we have received, there are 51 appointments,” Ruth Locklear, the tribe's enrollment director, told The Laurinburg Exchange. “We’re also booked for appointments through September.”

The tribe has 55,000 members
