Tribes in Oklahoma eagerly accept leftover FEMA mobile homes

Three tribes in Oklahoma were eager to accept leftover mobile homes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and some will take more if they become available.

The Absentee Shawnee Tribe, the Ottawa Tribe and the Delaware Tribe are among many in Indian Country that have purchased homes for their members. The homes are filling a big need.

"When you ain't got nothing, you're happy with whatever you can get," Wanda Tiger, who is Absentee Shawnee, told the Associated Press.

The Ottawa Tribe paid about $3,000 each for 39 homes. "These trailers are a great deal for our tribe ... I would take 100 more," Chief John Ballard told the AP.

Overall, about 1,850 leftover trailers have been acquired by tribes since 2008.
