Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation donates $300K to new 'unity' center

The Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation of California has donated $300,000 to the planned Capital Unity Center, The Sacramento Bee reports.

The center will be located in Sacramento. It will promote diversity, inclusion and tolerance in communities

"Native Americans have for generations felt the pain of discrimination, and know first hand the harm it can bring," Chairman Marshall McKay said in a press release. "The Yocha Dehe Community Fund's support for the center is based on our hope that through outreach and education others can be spared this pain."

Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D) solicited the money from the tribe. He used to serve as president of the Capital Unity Council.
