"Montana State University will observe American Indian Heritage Day with a variety of events scheduled on MSU's Centennial Mall from 10:45 a.m. - 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23.

The events, which pay tribute to the cultural legacy and societal contributions of Native American people in Montana and the U.S., will include dance demonstrations, musical performances and storytelling as well as displays of traditional cultural attire. Kasey Nicholson, MSU alumnus and member of the Gros Ventre tribe in Fort Belknap, will be the master of ceremonies for the events, which will begin with a tipi raising on Centennial Mall, behind Montana Hall.

Bill Yellowtail, a former Montana senator, member of the Crow Nation and director of Tribal Partnerships at MSU, will give welcoming remarks. Performances will follow by the Bobcat Singers, the youth drumming group The Boys and Girls Club of Northern Cheyenne, and Native hip hop performer Supaman (Christian Takes Gun Parrish, also Crow). Nicholson will also perform comedy and traditional flute. Student dance demonstrations and a traditional haka performed by MSU Polynesian students will fill the day."
