Poarch Creeks one of top donors to Republican committee

The Poarch Band of Creek Indians in Alabama donated $550,000 to the Republican State Leadership Committee in the last two campaign cycles, The Birmingham News reports.

The contributions made the tribe one of the largest donors to the committee. In the 2010 campaign cycle, the tribe was ranked 10th, but the group claims none of the money was used to fund races in Alabama.

"The Poarch Creek Indians as a donor, their contributions went into our administrative account which helps pay for things like overhead and salaries," Adam Temple, a spokesperson for the RSLC, told the paper.

The group was formed to help elect Republicans to state positions other than governor.
