DOJ opens investigation of $100M Tuscarora Nation settlement

The Department of Justice has opened an investigation into a $100 million settlement received by the Tuscarora Nation, according to The Niagara Falls Reporter.

The tribe accepted the settlement from the New York Power Authority in 2008. It provides $2 million a year for 50 years but tribal members say they don't know where the money is going.

The Reporter said DOJ plans to interview people who were involved with the settlement as early as this week. That could include Neil Patterson Sr., and his son, Neil Patterson Jr., who say they are in charge of the tribe.
