City council stays out of Shakopee Tribe land-into-trust dispute

The city council in Prior Lake, Minnesota, won't be joining opposition to the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community land-into-trust application.

The tribe wants to place 23 acres in trust. Other communities in Scott County are fighting the tribe's efforts.

The tribe uses the land as a garden for its natural food store. Property taxes in 2011 were $4,797, The Shakopee Valley News reported.
