Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe charges former officials for theft

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts is charging three former leaders for theft.

Former chairman Glenn Marshall, former vice chairman Shawn Hendricks and former secretary Desiree Hendricks-Moreno served on the council at the same time. They are accused of embezzling tribal funds for personal use.

“The tribe seeks repayment of all the funds embezzled and misappropriated by the three defendants,” Vice Chairman Aaron Tobey wrote in the January edition of Nausuonk Mittark.

Marshall, who led the tribe prior to and immediately following federal recognition, pleaded guilty in federal court to theft. He is due to be released in June, the Times reported.
