Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe hired lobbyist who won earmarks

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts hired former Congressman William Delahunt as its lobbyist in 2011, just after he secured $400,000 in earmarks for the tribe, The New York Times reports.

According to the paper, Delahunt secured the earmarks in 2008 and 2009. The tribe won federal recognition in May 2007.

Delahunt supported the tribe's federal recognition quest during his 14 years on Capitol Hill. After he left in January 2011, the tribe was one of his first lobbying clients.

Other clients for whom Delahunt secured earmarks have hired his lobbying firm, the Times said.
