The Sacred Heart Catholic School in Wisconsin offered apologies to a student who was reprimanded for using Menominee words in class.

Miranda Washinawatok, a seventh-grader, translated a few words for some fellow members of the Menominee Nation. She ended up being benched from a basketball game after her teacher reported the incident.

"It was breakdown in communication," Principal Dan Minter told The Green Bay Press-Gazette. "It was very unfortunate and I do apologize."

Miranda told fellow students how to say "Hello," "Thank you" and "I love you" in Menominee.
