Umatilla woman a contestant on America's Next Top Model

Mariah Watchman, a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Oregon, is competing to be America's Next Top Model.

Watchman, who grew up on the reservation, is proud to be the first enrolled tribal member on the show. She's using her heritage to her advantage.

"The first thing I did was speak my language," Watchman told The Oregonian. "That caught everyone in the room's attention."

Watchman, who attended Haskell Indian Nations University, also was proud to represent Pocahontas during a segment of the show about American icons.
