Lawmakers from the Crow Tribe of Montana are seeking the removal of a federal judge who admitted he sent a racist e-mail about President Barack Obama.

The Crow Legislature passed a resolution that calls on Congress to impeach Chief Judge Richard Cebull. The resolution says tribal members and the tribe itself deserve a fair shake in federal court.

"If we remain silent, then we accept the actions of Judge Cebull as being OK," Crow Sen. Leroy Not Afraid, who introduced the resolution, told The Billings Gazette.

Cebull has apologized to Obama for sending the e-mail. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is investigating.

Obama is an adopted member of the Crow Tribe.
