Coushatta Tribe aims to preserve language for generations

The Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana is offering classes in the Koasati language.

The tribe started working with elders to develop a writing system for the language. The goal is to keep Koasati alive for future generations.

"We just want to get the kids at least to start talking to each other in Koasati," Bertney Langley, the tribe's heritage director, told KLPC.

Langley and other elders are teaching the classes.
