EPA approves water standards program for Blackfeet Nation

The Blackfeet Nation of Montana has won authority to administer its own water standards on the reservation.

The tribe's authority was recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency under the Clean Water Act. “EPA’s approval reflects the tribe’s effort to build the expertise and capacity to manage water quality on the reservation," Jim Martin, the EPA's Region 8 administrator said in a press release.

The Blackfeet Nation is the fourth tribe in Montana to obtain authority to administer water quality standards.
