Recount confirms results of Leech Lake Band chairman's election

A recount confirmed the results of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe election but appeals are looming.

The recount gave Carri Jones, 32, an additional two votes. She defeated incumbent Arthur “Archie” LaRose by a total of seven votes.

LaRose, however, is appealing. Eugene “Ribs” Whitebird, a council representative who lost his re-election bid, is also appealing.

If the election is upheld, Jones will be the first woman and the youngest person to lead the tribe.
