Travels: A key stop in the historic journey of the Nez Perce Tribe

"The key stop in understanding the historic plight of the Nez Perce tribe is the National Park Service visitor center at Spalding, Idaho.

It's part of the headquarters of the Nez Perce National Historical Park, a branch of the National Park Service that has a superintendent who aggressively hires tribal members to work in the park.

This is a different kind of park than most Americans are familiar with, in that it lacks formal boundaries. It has no campgrounds, though state and federal parks are often nearby where camping is allowed."
