Famous Dave's debuts its first international location in Canada

Famous Dave’s has opened its first international location in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

"Famous" Dave Anderson, a member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Lake Superior Band of Ojibwe Indians, started the popular BBQ restaurant near his tribe's reservation in Wisconsin in 1994. The chain boasts more than 180 locations in 37 states and, now, Canada.

"This is the first time in North American history that a nationally recognized restaurant company expanded internationally by partnering with an Aboriginally owned company," Anderson said in a press release.

The franchise in Winnipeg is owned by the Tribal Councils Investment Group, a for-profit corporation that represents 55 First Nations in Manitoba. More locations are planned in Canada.
