Acoma Pueblo reportedly withdraws from rights-of-way talks

Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico has reportedly withdrawn from rights-of-way talks with a utility that supplies power on the reservation.

The tribe's prior agreement with the Continental Divide Electric Cooperative expired in July 2011, The Cibola Beacon reported. The tribe then declared CDEC to be in trespass, leading to an administrative proceeding in which the utility was told to pay more than $800,000 in fees.

CDEC is appealing the decision in tribal court. Meanwhile, some families on the reservation aren't able to receive electricity due to the lack of an agreement.
