Six charged for cheating investors in Fort Peck drilling scheme

Six people have been charged in connection with a drilling scheme on the Fort Peck Reservation in Montana.

Federal authorities said dozens of people invested $673,000 in a fictitious oil and gas project on the reservation. They promised quick and lucrative returns but nothing ever happened.

"They were going to drill for oil and they were going to get some kind of refinery going," one man who invested $12,500 in the project told the Associated Press. "But none of the promises about getting paid or money flows or staying in reasonable contact were achieved. I'm developing very little faith in the company."

The six people live in California.
