Tonto Apache Tribe to celebrate 40 years of federal recognition

The Tonto Apache Tribe of Arizona is celebrating 40 years of federal recognition.
The tribe was recognized by an act of Congress that was signed into law by then-president Richard Nixon on October 6, 1972. The tribe's 85-acre reservation was confirmed by another law that Nixon signed in 1974.
The tribe will hold a series of events from October 3 through October 6 to celebrate its recognition.
