Oglala Sioux Tribe Primary Election Results
By Native Sun News Staff

PINE RIDGE — On Tuesday, Oct. 9, the Oglala Sioux Tribe held its biennial primary election.

The top two vote-getters for the offices of president and vice president will move on to the tribe’s general election on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Porcupine District has only four people running, so no primary was held there, and all four candidates will automatically advance to the general election.

In the Pine Ridge Village District, the largest district on the Pine Ridge Reservation, six will advance to the general election to vie for three spots on the tribal council, and the remainder of the districts will have four advance from the primary to the general election to compete for two spots respectively.

A total of 3,577 votes were cast. The results of the tribe’s 2012 primary election will be declared official on the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 10.

With the exception of 803 challenge votes by individuals not listed on the OST’s eligible voter list compiled by the tribe’s election commission, as well as absentee votes, the unofficial results as of the night of Oct. 9 are as follows:
