Chief of Blood Tribe sworn into third consecutive term in office

Charles Weasel Head was sworn in as chief of the Blood Tribe of Alberta on Monday.

This will be Weasel Head's third consecutive term in office. He pledged for more accountability for the band's finances, an issue that has been in the national news.

"Some of the areas that we perhaps need to revamp is having a little bit more control over those expenses and salaries and putting them in line with what the people's expectations are in the government," Weasel Head told The Lethbridge Herald.

According to The National Post, the chief makes $131,715 a year in salary and travel expenses. Including the 12 members of the council, the entire tribal leadership earns $1.7 million a year.

The council that was sworn in on Monday includes nine newcomers to tribal office.
