Spirit Lake social service director had prior domestic cases

The director of social services for the Spirit Lake Dakotah Nation of North Dakota had two prior domestic violence cases but charges were dismissed in both instances.

Mark Little Owl faced assault charges in 2004 and in 2009. But he was never convicted of a crime.

Little Owl, however, is facing new charges stemming from an August 21 incident involving a woman and his children. He told The Grand Forks Herald that the case was based on "totally false allegations."

Little Owl is a member of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation. He was hired to run social services for the Spirit Lake Nation last year.
