Rival factions of Chukchansi Tribe meet BIA in leadership dispute

Rival factions of the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians of California met with the Bureau of Indian Affairs on Tuesday but a solution didn't appear in sight.

Two groups claim to be in control of the tribe. The BIA has offered to help mediate the dispute.

"I have met with both sides in this matter and have offered mediation services to assist them in resolving the current situation," superintendent Troy Burdick told The Sierra Star.

The rival groups are planning to hold separate council meetings on Saturday.
