Members of the Shinnecock Nation of New York went to the polls on Tuesday in an election that was marred by reports of violence.

The Southampton Press and Indian Country Today reported on numerous clashes at the tribe's community center, where ballots were being cast. State police went to the reservation but no arrests were reported.

The election went on as planned and tribal members elected Daniel Collins Sr., Taobi Silva and Brad Smith to the board of trustees. They won the most votes out of eight candidates.

Two former trustees who were removed from office last year also ran for seats but didn't garner enough votes.
