Menominee Nation eyes support for land-into-trust request

The Menominee Nation of Wisconsin is seeking local support for a land-into-trust application, The Shawano Leader reports.

The tribe wants 160 acres in the town of Red Springs in trust. The land is located in a part of town called Middle Village, where the tribe already has 1,200 of 1,600 acres in trust.

The tribe owns another 200 acres in Middle Village but that land is currently subject to local restrictions, the paper said. The remaining 40 acres in Middle Village are in private hands.
